Nippon Koei, one of Japan’s largest engineering consulting firms, needed a digital platform to power their Mobility as a Service (MaaS) initiative across Southeast Asia. The project required coordinating data from multiple transportation providers across four countries into a unified, real-time platform.
The Challenge
MaaS is inherently complex: different data formats from different providers, varying levels of digital maturity across markets, and the need for real-time accuracy. Additionally, the solution needed to serve multiple user types — transit operators, city planners, and end-users — each with different interfaces and requirements.
Our Solution
We built a comprehensive MaaS platform with three layers:
- Data Aggregation Layer: Python-based ETL pipelines that normalize heterogeneous transit data into a unified format, processing millions of GPS pings daily
- Operator Dashboard: A React-based web application giving transit authorities real-time visibility into fleet performance, ridership patterns, and service anomalies
- Consumer Apps: Flutter mobile applications providing end-users with multimodal journey planning, real-time arrival information, and mobile ticketing
The Results
- Platform launched across Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Australia
- Data processing pipeline handles 2M+ daily events with sub-second latency
- Consumer apps achieved 4.5+ star ratings on both App Store and Play Store
- The platform has become Nippon Koei’s foundation for all future MaaS projects in the region
